The Franklin County Virginia Courts serve as part of Virginia’s 22nd Judicial District. These courts consist of a Circuit Court, a General District Court & a Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. These are all trial courts. Each Court has its own Judges and its own specific jurisdiction. The Franklin County judges preside over a variety of cases all unique to the jurisdiction of their particular court. The Franklin County Circuit Court is the trial court with the broadest powers and also hears cases appealed from the district courts. The right to trial by Jury is only in the Franklin County Circuit Court. The Franklin County General District Court hears the most cases due its traffic violation jurisdiction.

Terms of Court and General Information
- Terms begin, 1st Monday, Feb., April, June, Aug., Oct., and Dec.
- All cases are set by the Court’s Administrative Assistant, Lori Cundiff, and the dates coordinated with the attorneys involved.
- Criminal cases are set the week following the preliminary hearing. Civil Cases are set 90 days after filing.
- Criminal and misdemeanor appeals are set by the Clerk of the General District Court or the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court at the time the appeal is noted.
